For Our Out of Town Guests
We're delighted that you will be joining us as we celebrate our wedding day, and hope to make this an enjoyable experience for everyone! Here is some information you might find handy.
Hotels
A block of rooms has been reserved at the
Tysons Corner Marriott and the
Hyatt Place Chantilly. To select the hotel most convenient for you, please check the
map. If you are making your reservation over the phone, be sure to mention the Brewer/Shinn wedding, or contact Karen Shinn for assistance with booking rooms at the Hyatt.
Transportation
The best way to travel around the DC metropolitan area is via the
Metro or
Uber. Guests at the Marriott will be conveniently close to the brand new Tysons Corner Metro Station (Silver Line), which goes to the Ballston Metro Station (Silver and Orange Lines) near Mrs. Brewer's house. If you don't feel like waiting for a train, UberX or Uber is a safe bet! Be sure to download the app beforehand.
Airports
DCA - Reagan National Airport, Arlington, Virginia. This is closer to the Brewer household.
IAD - Dulles International Airport, Dulles, Virginia. This is closer to the Shinn household.
Recommended Activities
If you will be in town for a few days, there is plenty to do beyond just visiting museums! If you want other recommendations, drop us a note at wedding@docandkiki.com and we'll find something for you.
Clarendon: More than just
dudes in brown flip flops, Clarendon also features the delicious
Cava Mezze Mediterrenean restaurant. Be sure to check out the saganaki (flaming cheese) and marvel at the lack of singed eyebrows.
Artisan Confections is Kiki's favourite local chocolatier, and Doc can spend (and has spent) hours at the
Screwtop Wine Bar. Book nerds will enjoy the brick and mortar relic of pre-Internet days known as Barnes and Noble, just around the corner.
Mosaic District: Swing by
Sea Pearl for amazing Blue Point oysters at dinner or churros at brunch. Say hello to Kevin at
Swirl and Sip if you're looking for interesting wines, sakes, and beers! Did you know that olive oil can be tasty enough to warrant an entire store dedicated to it? I didn't either until
Ah Love Oil & Vinegar popped up. The
Angelika Theater is a great place to watch a movie and grab a bucket of beer.
Eden Center: Anyone related to Kiki already knows that this is the local Vietnamese mothership. Stop here for giт lụa, boba, banh mi, and your pho fix!
Tysons Corner: Tysons is home to one of the larger
malls in the area, carrying Apple to Zales and everything in between. The nearby Ritz Carlton has a delicious
afternoon tea service, and the tasty
Sweet Ginger sushi restaurant is not far away---be sure to try their ginger ice cream!
Georgetown: In addition to being a popular shopping destination and the site of the famous stair scene in the Poltergeist, Georgetown also has a wonderful variety of delicious foods.
Das has amazing Ethiopian cuisine, and
Bistro Francais is worth a visit for their French food. If you share Kiki's sweet tooth, there are an impressive number of cupcake and macaron establishments, but
Olivia Macaron is her favourite! It's conveniently next door to the droolworthy
Dean and Deluca.
Dogfish Head Alehouse: Yes, this deserves its own category! These wonderful purveyors of beery goodness have locations in
Fairfax and
Falls Church, and Doc and Kiki will both enthusiastically recommend the seasonal brews (Theobroma, Punkin Ale, etc).
